Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Ceramic Stop?

The Ceramic Stop is a friendly place where you can create your own artwork on the pottery piece of your choice. Whether you are 5, 25, 55, or 105, we can help bring out the artist in you! We create memories.

Do I have to be an artist to paint my own pottery? I can’t draw a straight line!

No! We have stencils and rubber stamps for the artistically challenged. We also have books with hundreds of ideas, and designs that you can transfer onto your pieces and then just paint it in like a coloring book! We have a friendly helpful staff, to teach you new techniques, and we have classes to teach you everything from painting grapes and flowers, to building your Christmas Village.

What can I paint?

We have over 400 different pieces to paint. We have dolphins, whales, tropical fish and other aquatic life. We have plates, platters and bowls in lots of useful sizes and shapes. We have cookie jars, napkin rings, and even keepsake boxes. From small knobs to huge vases, we have it all. We even have lions and tigers and bears, OH MY.

Can I really use this stuff?

Yes! All our paints are non-toxic, lead free, and are food-safe. They are dishwasher safe as well as microwave safe.

How much does it cost?

How much do you want to spend? We have pieces as inexpensive as one dollar. Of course, we have huge pieces over $40. Most pieces range from $2 – $16. At The Ceramic Stop we charge you for the pieces that you paint and you are free to use our paints, brushes and generally to make a mess. Once you have completed painting your piece, it is clear glazed and fired, all included in your purchase.

What can kids do at The Ceramic Stop?

We can amuse children of all ages, including infants! You can paint your baby’s feet, or your children’s hands on a platter, a clock, or a coffee mug. Even the youngest child likes to play with brushes, sponges and paints.  Finger painting on pieces (but not on employees)

is allowed and encouraged. The paints rinse off the kids and their clothes with water.

Usually a piece is available within a week. Around holiday times the wait could be a little longer

Do you have classes?

Our classes are much more fun than that boring stuff you learned in school. We will show you how to paint grapes and other fruit, vegetables, flowers, bugs, stripes, plaids, and borders, and many other things. We can even teach you how to build a fountain. See our class page for more information.
